Welcome back to SpaceCoastMultiSport!

Brevard County, FL has a unique and burgeoning community of people who love to swim, bike and/or run. There are so many amazing athletes and races yet multisport has traditionally been overlooked by local media in favor of the ball sports.

While we applaud all athletes and their endeavors, we first published SpaceCoastMultiSport.com online in Oct. 2006 as a way to provide exposure for and information to our local multisport community. Sadly, multiple family health issues forced us to take a break in early 2011.

With the increased sophistication of social media, we wondered if there was still a need to continue with the site. We sent out a demographic survey a few weeks ago to see if our local multisport population mirrors that on a national level. The survey will remain open until tomorrow evening (April 15) at http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/WEB22F7FPD2QUL and we will be publishing the results soon.

One of the surprises we've seen so far is that 93% of the population indicated a need for access to free social media that focuses on Brevard County multisport athletes and their events.

SpaceCoastMultiSport hopes to again fill that need.

Our new web platform will allow us to do some cool stuff (as we figure it out) and we will be slowly adding archived content from the old site.

Another new addition that we're excited about is the talented writing of Mark DeCotis.

Mark recently retired, ending a 37-year newspaper career - 27 years for FLORIDA TODAY - in which he served as a reporter, columnist and editor. If you've read the FT sports pages over the years you know that Mark has a soft spot for multisport and NASCAR. We can't wait to read his first story.

We'd  especially  like to hear from you. Send us your ideas for stories or write your own. Mark or I will be happy to edit and your family will love reading your byline on the newsblog.
